The mail app keeps bringing itself to front randomly on its own. If the app is completely closed (quit out) it won't open on its own, but if i just close the window or hide it, eventually it makes itself visible once more. It seems to happen more so when I'm waking the mac from sleep. I have a comcast, iCloud, and 2 gmail accounts signed into. Sep 05, 2019 On your Mac, open System Preferences (from the Apple menu at the top-left of the screen), or use Terminal. Click Users & Groups; Click the Login Items tab; Here you will see the apps that will open automatically at login. If Mail is there, you can stop it from opening automatically, select and and click the minus icon to remove it. Mail usually picks up the right settings automatically when you enter the information for your email accounts, but sometimes, these settings need adjusting. Incorrect settings can cause problems ranging from failure to send and receive mail to oddities such as a dimmed Send button. (Adjusting the SMTP settings can fix the latter problem.) Mail. The app consistently crashes when I delete the messages in the “Junk” mail folder. This even happens when I perform the delete action from a mobile device; that is, if I have the Mail app running on the Mac, then trash junk mail items on my iPhone, the Mac Mail app crashes.
Add an email account
If you haven't already set up an email account in Mail, you might be prompted to add one when you open the app. If you're not prompted, or you just want to add another account, follow these steps:
- From the menu bar in Mail, choose Mail > Add Account.
- Select your email provider from the list, then click Continue.
- Some accounts, such as Google, might ask that you click Open Browser to complete authentication in your web browser.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to enter account details, such as your name, email address, and password. If you're not sure what information to enter, please contact your email provider for help.
Use the Inbox for each account
The Inbox gathers together the messages for every email account you added. If you added more than one account, you can click the disclosure triangle next to Inbox in the sidebar, then select a mailbox to see only the messages for that account.

Macbook Email Opens Randomly
macOS Catalina 10.15 - Mail 13.4 - When I open Mail it takes almost a full minute for it to open. It's an IMAP account. Things I have tried > I turned the account off in Preferences, closed Mail, re-booted the computer, re-enable Mail. I emptied the Junk, Trash, Spam and Sent folders. I did Rebuilds of all mailboxes. I made sure there are no Bundles in the HD . Users > Library > Mail. After Mail is open it works fine. Just curious about the long delay in opening. I use the same IMAP account on another Mac desktop and a MacBook. The Mail app opens almost instantly on those other 2 machines.
